Postdoc in ultrafast nanophotonics - Technical University of Denmark

We seek a skilled experimentalist to join a team of researchers exploring ultrafast dynamics in nanophotonic structures. The project will take place at DTU Fotonik, Technical University of Denmark, and is part of the Villum Centre of Excellence NATEC (“NAnophotonics for TErabit Communications”). The NATEC Centre performs basic experimental and theoretical research on light-matter interaction in nanostructures, such as semiconductor quantum dots and photonic crystals, with applications to novel devices and photonic integration. The Centre has state-of-the-art nanofabrication and characterization facilities and emphasizes close interaction between experiment and theory. The Centre has been running for six years, during which world-class experimental and theoretical results have been obtained. More information about NATEC is available on the webpage: www.natec.dtu.dk.

Post-doc Position in Photonics : Technion - Israel Institute of Technology · Faculty of Electrical Engineering Israel, Haifa

Apply for this job 17 days left to apply

Job description

A research position is offered to a researcher (Ph.D. of postdoc level) from the field of photonics. The research will focus on developing a new architecture for interferometric detection of ultrasound on a silicon-photonics platform with the aim of outperforming conventional technology. The work is mostly experimental, but will involve some mathematical analysis and numerical simulations (COMSOL). Depending on the skills of the applicant, the focus will be either on the interferometric systems themselves, based on telecom technology and fiber optics, or on the fabrication of optical components in silicon. The optical sensors developed in this project will be used in ultrasound experiments in collaboration with other lab members and will serve as the heart of new imaging and sensing systems. Accordingly, we are looking for a team-player who can work in an interdisciplinary group.

The position is fully funded by the Israeli Science Foundation for 2-3 years. For candidates with the appropriate background, we will offer our support in writing an application for the prestigious Marie Curie fellowship. For more information, see http://lbis.net.technion.ac.il/
Desired skills and experience

The candidate should have research experience in the field of photonics, including published papers. The position may be fulfilled by a Ph.D. student with previous experience in optics, or ideally by a postdoc. Specific experience with interferometry, fiber optics, or fabrication is highly relevant. A degree in either electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or biomedical engineering is required. The candidate should have already taken several courses in optics and be very familiar with electro-optical components (various waveguides, modulators, polarization-dependent components, etc.) and possess a general understanding of wave phenomena. Some hands-on experience with optical equipment is required.

About the employer

The Technion is Israel's leading university in engineering. It was ranked no. 44 in the world for Engineering (http://www.shanghairanking.com/FieldENG2015.html) and 7th in the European Research Area. The Department for Electrical Engineering is the largest one at the Technion and is one of the driving forces of Israel's start-up economy with 70% of CEOs and VPs of high-tech industries in Israel as its graduates.
